Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream full-fat for best creaminess

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard for a subtle tang
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar adjust to taste for sweetness

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper freshly ground preferred
  • Pinch salt optional, to taste

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Method

Prepare Dressing Overview
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard.
  2. Add the granulated sugar, celery salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
  3. Whisk all ingredients vigorously until the dressing is completely smooth, creamy, and well-combined. Ensure there are no lumps of sour cream or sugar.
  4. Taste the dressing and adjust seasonings as needed. You might want a little more sugar for sweetness, vinegar for tang, or a pinch of regular salt if desired.
  5. Use immediately to dress your shredded cabbage and carrots, or cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Chilling will thicken the dressing slightly and enhance its taste.

Notes

For a thinner dressing, add a tablespoon of milk or water. Add a touch of onion powder or garlic powder for extra depth. This dressing is best made fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Stir well before using. Use full-fat sour cream for the richest, creamiest texture. Low-fat options may result in a thinner dressing.
