- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
- For the brownie layer: Whisk melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla and whisk again.
- Stir in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until fully combined. Spread evenly in the pan.
- For the cookie layer: Cream softened butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips, then drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie layer, spreading gently.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the cookie top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool completely before lifting out and slicing into squares.
Notes
For extra gooey brookies, bake on the lower end of the time range.
