Prepare Fries & Oven
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using an air fryer for crispier fries, preheat it to 375°F (190°C) according to manufacturer's instructions. Spread the frozen fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper if air frying.
- Bake fries in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or air fry for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, tossing halfway through. They don't need to be fully cooked through yet, just getting crispy.
Cook Beef Mixture
- While fries are cooking, heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced yellow onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the ground beef and break it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Stir in the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder into the browned beef. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Reduce heat to medium. Stir in the ketchup, yellow mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Assemble and Bake
- Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread half of the crispy fries evenly on the bottom of the dish.
- Spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture over the fries. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese over the beef.
- Top with the remaining fries, then sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
- Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
Garnish & Serve
- Let the bake rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped dill pickles, cherry tomatoes, fresh parsley, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, if desired. Serve hot with extra ketchup and mustard on the side.
Notes
For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture. Feel free to customize with your favorite burger toppings like bacon bits, sliced jalapeños, or a drizzle of special sauce (mayo, ketchup, relish). Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
