  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch Baking Pan

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  6. Press about two-thirds of the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Stir the almond extract into the cherry pie filling and spread evenly over the dough.
  8. Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling.
  9. Bake for 35–40 minutes until the top is lightly golden.
  10. Cool completely, slice into bars, and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For cleaner slices, chill the bars for 30 minutes before cutting. These bars store well and are great for potlucks.
