- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a standard loaf pan and line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Mix in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Gently fold in the dark chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 65–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
For extra richness, serve with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar. This cake also keeps well for several days when wrapped tightly.
