Christmas Tree Cupcakes

Ingredients
  

Cupcakes
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting and Decoration
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • green food coloring
  • sprinkles or candy stars for decoration

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour batter evenly into cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
  5. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. In a bowl, beat butter until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, then mix in green food coloring until desired color is reached.
  7. Transfer frosting to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe swirls onto each cupcake to form a Christmas tree shape.
  8. Decorate with sprinkles or candy stars and enjoy!

Notes

To make these even more festive, add edible glitter or mini pretzel sticks as tree trunks. Store cupcakes in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
