- In a large pot, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add chopped onion and garlic. Cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, kidney beans, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cook for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Adjust seasoning to taste and serve hot with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese or sour cream.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper. Leftovers taste even better the next day!
