Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese softened
  • 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 6 slices Bacon cooked crisp and crumbled
  • 2 tbsp Green Onions thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper optional, for a kick
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
For the Bites
  • 1 (8 oz) can Refrigerated Crescent Dough Sheet or crescent dinner rolls
For the Egg Wash
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tbsp Water

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Sharp Knife
  • Small Bowl
  • Pastry Brush

Method

Prepare the Filling
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, sliced green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), black pepper, and salt. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and evenly distributed.
Assemble the Bites
  1. Unroll the crescent dough sheet onto the prepared baking sheet. If using crescent dinner rolls, unroll them and press the seams together firmly to form a single rectangular sheet.
  2. Evenly spread the cream cheese mixture over the entire surface of the dough, leaving a small border (about 1/2 inch) on one of the long edges.
  3. Starting from the long edge opposite the small border, carefully and tightly roll up the dough into a log.
  4. Wrap the log loosely in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes. This step is crucial for making clean cuts.
Bake the Bites
  1. Once chilled, unwrap the log. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1/2-inch thick slices. You should get approximately 24 pieces.
  2. Arrange the slices, cut-side up, on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each bite.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the large egg and water to create an egg wash. Lightly brush the tops of each party bite with the egg wash.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the bites are golden brown and the cheese filling is bubbly.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

These Iowa Party Bites can be prepared ahead of time! Assemble the log and chill it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Slice and bake just before serving. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days and reheated gently in an oven or air fryer for best results.
