Ingredients

Cake Batter
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
Chocolate Batter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp milk warm

Equipment

  • Loaf Pan or Round Cake Pan
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a loaf pan or round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with milk, mixing until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into two bowls. Stir cocoa powder and warm milk into one bowl.
  7. Spoon vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into the prepared pan and gently swirl with a knife.
  8. Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add chocolate chips to the chocolate batter or a glaze on top once cooled.
