- Cook the cavatappi pasta in salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the spicy sausage and cook, breaking it apart, until browned.
- Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté for 4–5 minutes, or until softened.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili flakes, smoked paprika, pepper, and salt. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the sauce becomes smooth and rich. Let it simmer on low for 3–4 minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- Stir in parmesan cheese and fresh basil. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot with extra parmesan on top.
Notes
For extra heat, add more chili flakes or a pinch of cayenne. This pasta also reheats beautifully for meal prep!
