Ingredients

Wonton Filling
  • 200 g shrimp peeled and finely chopped
  • 100 g ground beef or steak mince
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 green onion finely chopped
  • 20 wonton wrappers
Soup Base
  • 4 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili paste or sriracha adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp ginger freshly grated
Toppings
  • 150 g steak thinly sliced and seared
  • fresh cilantro for garnish

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Tongs

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine shrimp, ground steak, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onion. Mix well to create the filling.
  2. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold to seal tightly.
  3. In a large pot, heat broth, soy sauce, chili paste, and grated ginger until it begins to simmer.
  4. Add the prepared wontons to the simmering broth and cook for about 5–7 minutes, until the wontons float and are cooked through.
  5. Meanwhile, sear the thinly sliced steak in a hot pan until browned on the edges but still tender.
  6. Divide the wontons and broth into bowls, top with seared steak slices, fresh cilantro, and extra chili oil if desired.

Notes

For an extra kick, drizzle chili oil on top or add a few drops of rice vinegar for brightness. You can also replace shrimp with crab or chicken for variety.
