Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

Method
 

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, rice vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, garlic, and chili flakes.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan while whisking continuously.
  4. Simmer for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens to your liking.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator.

Notes

You can adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the chili flakes. For extra flavor, add finely chopped fresh red chilies.
