Ingredients

Main
  • 8 slices brioche or challah bread thick slices
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • salt pinch
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • fresh berries for topping
  • maple syrup for serving
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • Non-stick Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Method

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  2. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and place the bread slices inside, allowing them to soak for 20–30 seconds per side.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon butter.
  4. Place soaked bread slices onto the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crisp.
  5. Add the remaining butter as needed and continue cooking the rest of the slices.
  6. Transfer to a warm plate and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
  7. Serve with fresh berries and maple syrup for the ultimate finish.

Notes

For extra richness, use thick-cut brioche and allow the bread to soak slightly longer for a creamier interior.
